HELP! What does this guy mean?

Okay so I’ve liked this guy for almost a year, and we had a thing but neither of us really acted upon it. He’s kind of shy so I didn't know what to do, but recently I decided to ask him out for icecream & minigolf. He responded with “potentially” and then told me he’d let me know when he’s in town. Is this a light rejection or is he seriously wanting to go out? We haven't really talked since then and I dont wanna be confused about him anymore!
