Is it appropriate to let someone cut in on a dance if they ask "Mind if I cut in?" ?

Matters what kind of dance it is? But uh... Generally no? Dancing is something both you and the person your dancing agreed to do together. Them cutting in isn't something one person can agree to, and it's rude to interrupt to people just to ask.

A dude asked us and I only agreed because she did.

If it made you uncomfortable, or if hurt your feelings, you should talk to her about it. Not like, in an accusatory way, but just let her know how you feel and that you expectations going into the dance was to dance with her, not swapping dance partners throughout the dance. She might not even realize it's got you upset, and it's always okay to share your feelings with your partner.

I was trying to be a gentleman about it, if she said no then he wouldn't have gotten to.

I agree it seems rude! I'm surprised this is so common in movies and stuff. maybe it's a super old timey thing?
