Is trying to approach a woman in gym clothes a bad idea?

I think you know the kind of clothes I mean. I'm very much into fitness, and they say to meet someone doing things you like to do. I like hiking, but there's no way I'm going to approach a woman 10 miles away from the nearest living person. The gym is practically the only other option, but it seems like the worst option, especially since nearly all of them wear that particular kind of clothing that is essentially painted on.

Definitely not a bad idea. Forget everything anyone tells you about finding the "right environment" to ask out a woman. If she finds you attractive, just about anywhere except for a funeral or a bathroom stall will be the "right environment". For your hiking example, I've gotten a date with a woman on a hiking trail. I said "hi" while passing by, she stopped me and asked for directions, we got to talking, and I got her number. Nothing happened after, but it just illustrates my point that nowhere is inappropriate if she likes you.

Strike up a conversation and if she seems interested and reciprocates, ask her out. You might be rejected often, but shrug it off and move on to the next girl because getting a date is purely a numbers game.

The best advice I ever got on dating is that if she likes you, she'll make it easy for you to "chase" her. There won't be any need for finding the right place/time or persuading her to give you a chance. Just play the numbers game.

There's a lot of women out there. Just keep asking around it might take a while. And by interest I mean simply she participates in the conversation with you, don't try to read her mind. If she barely acknowledges your attempts at conversation, that's a clear sign of disinterest, but otherwise it's possible that she might be interested and that's enough to at least ask for a number. And maybe after all she was just being friendly and turns down your date offer, but it's not a big deal if neither of you make it one.

In the mean time, pussy isn't the be-all end-all of life. There are all kinds of ways to live and enjoy life.

That's great and all, but I would like a relationship at least once in my life. What if it's all "just getting nice" or friendly at best?

I don't know what you want me to tell you. You can't force a relationship. If literally no one ever goes on a date with you ever, I guess kill yourself for being so fugly lol.
Having those kind of thoughts "what if I never get x, y, or z" are defeatist and self-fulfilling, you have to push them aside and live your life.
