I think both can, but personality is paramount. Looks tend to fade away, and even the most beautiful people are eventually just average. But a beautiful soul is beautiful for a lifetime.
i do partially agree... looks are great for the first impression but generally you just need to be considered attractive for the other person (not necessarily look like a model) and personality changes lots of things.
Regarding the "looks do fade" thing... my grandpa used to tell me he saw my grandma exactly as beautiful as when they were both 20.
