Match. com was free as far as I remember. I think tinder is free too but you can't see who liked you or something, for which I created an account a year ago solely to test it whether it can be bypassed, and it can. There was a clipboard of code that you enter into the browser's console and it unlocks the hidden features. Pretty interesting that this thing was quite old and still not patched by the site. Anyway the more free dating apps there are the less chances of you getting something out of them. Because how would you know which one to choose? Let's say you wanted to meet @BoobSlayer, how likely is it that he also uses a dating app during this exact month? And how likely is it that @BoobSlayer is using the exact same app? And that a conversation goes well? You're better off printing a T shirt that has your dating app profile and wearing it in public.

So Match bought Cupid, and turned them into Tinder.

Cupid had the most sophisticated search engine on the planet. Now you have to swipe right or left.

@Karen444 ok. The first time I heard of match 2 years ago I thought it's a joke. "Match. com" the perfect sounding name for a website that female astrologers would pray to and get granted their wishes. So easy to remember. "Match" and ". com" and you'll find your perfect match.

It costs money to run a web site. A web site owner can either charge people to use it or they can sell advertising.

In my limited and rather old experience with dating sites, I had the most success on match. At least the people paying for a membership were serious about finding a partner.
