How much do you leave for a tip?

For me I always leave a more than generous tip for servers cause I'm one myself. But my significant other does not due to being cheap ass.

It should always be 20%. I’m a server and I see all kinds of tips though. People are more generous than not, so I ignore the ungenuine people

Starts at 20%. Do the bare minimum that's what you get. Be rude you get less. Go above and beyond you get more. There's a local restaurant that I frequent for the special events they put on. Those I usually end up tipping at 50% because the waitstaff is knowledgeable about the food and the wine. There is a winebar downtown that I've loved for years, and would specifically request the same waiter because he was so on point. His tip exceeded the bill a few times. Particularly if we'd been drinking different by the glass wines for 4 or 5 hours and he nailed every recommendation. If I was just popping in before an event or a date, he'd rarely get less than a hundred. If I was there for any length of time I'd usually let him pick a bottle, we'd open it up and send the bottle around to the key staff for them to try as well. It's not uncommon for them to have a full house but my party of two will still have two tables pushed together to hold all the wine we're trying as well as various wines for the staff as they cycle through to taste with us.

I’ve gone to Akira Back (a Michelin restaurant in Toronto) and left them no tip because their food was trash and their service was equally as terrible. The food was so expensive that we were shocked having to get a second dinner as the first didn’t even fill us.

Almost always 20%. But depends on the place and the server. If the server sucks, they get less. If they really were super bad, I leave a penny. A penny says you remembered the tip, and that is all they were worth.

i tip 20% as long as their service is solid. if they go above and beyond i may tip higher than 20%

I'm Australian and there is a tradition of not tipping as it is insulting.
