Is spelling important in dating?

just noticed people get all funny with spelling. i honestly type and write so quickly without even cheking if i made spelling mistakes as i believe my time in more important than a few spelling mistakes and as long as people get what i am writing thats all that matters. but i think people my start thinking i am uneducated stupid and not date me when they see my texts.

If you are writing a dating bio, have it polished and make sure things are spelled correctly and that it's easy on the eyes. It sends a signal that you care about how you are perceived. When you are writing an email, same thing. If you take the time to correct your mistakes, it looks like you care about what you say and how your reader will view your thoughts. When it's messy, full of mistakes, and text-speak, sorry to say, but it can come across as a bit too casual and uneducated. This is especially so when someone cannot grasp how to spell a word that they learned in Grade 3.

I know that when I read Questions on GaG, I usually cannot get through some dumpster-fire type of posts that are riddled with errors, street-speak, text-speak, and lack of punctuation and line breaks. Even if the person has a Question that I can probably give advice for, I simply find myself more often than not, clicking off of it to get to someone I can easily read and understand.

Sorry if it seems fussy coming from a GenX-er who was raised on long hand and proper finger-placement when typing, but reading what you have to say is our first impression of a person online, so why not make it the best that it can be?

you are right i will make more of an effort. its a shame that gag doesn't let us edit our comments. But so many time people get the impression that i am stupid because of all my spelling mistakes.

Man, I’m such a spelling/grammar snob, but Idrc about other people in texting or anything. I type/write really fast as well, and a word I always get tripped up on especially when writing is friendship. I often forget the d so it’s just frienship.

If your thoughts are intelligent, people that think will realize you are intelligent. People who don't think will only see the spelling errors. Ideas matter to smart people. Grammar and spelling matter to stupid people, because 5th grade English class was the pinnacle of their intellectual development. It was all down hill after that.

we dont live in a world where people are intelligent. i used to think like you so i didn't bother cheeking my spelling and was hopping that people will just see the importance of what i was writing. people are not like this. they won't look past the spelling mistakes. its unfortunate.

You're correct, most people are not intelligent, they are average... That's the nature of a normal distribution. If you want to resonate with average people you have to dumb things down and use small words that are spelled correctly so they can sound them out. You need to explain ideas in two or three different ways and use repetition until they understand. If you want to communicate with smart people you need to have interesting ideas and the sauce to back it up. Figure out who you want to communicate with and then act accordingly. You can't please every one.

Not only in dating, it's a sign of respect in all communication. I hate reading ghetto babble or having to identify leet speek.

I would never date anyone that texts. If someone can't do something as basic as actually talk to me, they are not worth my time.

thats also true and from experience the people who give importance in spelling are not really nice.
