Agree or Disagree: Most men date down and most women date up?

Question

Meaning:  A man would date a woman who works the drive through at McDonalds and see a future with them. A woman would never even think about doing that especially if they have a high paying job.

Lol, no. Too many times I've seen respectable women dating losers. But they're not losers because of their low paying job, everyone is on a different path in life and it's very ignorant to judge people on this when their are far more important factors to take in to consideration.

if anything men seem to judge women more on their career status/ income, and they will only see them as a potential notch on the bed post if they don't reach their dating standards.

It is far more common for a guy to date a woman who works an average job and who might not even have a car - which I wouldn't even call "dating down" - than it is for a woman to date a guy like that vice versa. Only women who have messed up ideas about love and sex will date low quality men, which is also very common.

Disagree. I have seen many quality women dating losers who are extremely below them. Regarding the guys who are willing to date a macd worker or retail assistant, most of the time he is within her level or using her for a temporary relationship before he could do better. I have never seen a male engineer dating a fast food worker. For a booty call maybe? Yes.

I don't know. But as long as my future partner is working a job that pays their bills, food, drinks, and allows them to be financially stable, that's good enough for me. I want them to be able to take great care of themselves. And if that job (or one of them) is McDonalds, so be it.

At least in my experience it´s often not always the case that women prefer a guy making either than they do or a guy that works in a job that´s consider prestigious like as a doctor, police officer, high paid job in a bank, university professor... While guys go less for a woman´s title but more for she brings to a relationship.

I think thats an old concept based on the gender pay gap and social dynamics like women staying at home to care for the kids.

Yes. The example is correct. We would all think a woman dating a McDonald server strange. But wouldn't comment on a man doing that.

Men and women have different selection criteria. The dating up or down is really relative to economic status. So it is not accurate to look at it in those terms in what men look for in women.

Men WILL date 'down' if they find the woman attractive.

Women WILL date 'up' or 'level', but in dating 'level' the woman has to find the man exceptional. And by date I do not include the Chads & Tyrones they chase for the one night stands.

The thing is, a lot of time, women don't care too much about carreer.
So when you find one that actually DOES have a carreer she tends to focus a lot on income and won't easily get a guy who isn't like that.

I think looks play a role in this as well. Pretty girls dont even need a job to roll with or raise a family with lawyers, doctors, enginers, celebrities and so on. Every guy has dreamed of those pretty ones that only so few can get with. Cops, criminals, arsonists, firefigjterss, millionaires, homeless people, you name it. Girls who got those looks are set for life! For men, looks on their own will never get them even 1% of the way girls get with looks only.
