Yeah because I am assuming he is close to your age. I think you need to find someone that doesn't make the assumption you are gold digger. Are you one? If not then why is he saying it? Just from your question there is a vibe that neither of you are happy with the way things are going so yeah it would be my opinion time to cut ties and move to greener pastures. No he's actually a good bit older. But he played professionally. Didn't find it out til later. Wasn't interested in it really. I liked him for who he was
