Why does a boy does this?

The boy I was talking to for months said he don't want a relationship with me. I have put in so many efforts and even after all this he doesn't want. Though he was the first one to approach me , tell me he likes me and would want a relationship with me. He was so sure. But he changed after so many months. So I started texting him less and then gradually stopped texting. But he still texts me even if I don't. Guys is there a hope in future?
