He said I can dump him when I find someone better?

I have been seeing this guy for a short while. We had an honest conversation about what we want and what not in life. It turned out that our goals are not aligned. For example, he wants to have kids and I don't.

He said he really cares about me even though we don't agree on everything.

Then he said " be with me and when you find someone better, dump me".

I found what he said very sad.

What do you think?

What does it mean about him as a person to say something like this?

He rates your happiness highly, aboive his own. I think it is a sign of true love if he is willing to step aside and sacrifice his own happiness to maintain yours. I would stick with this guy. In time, your differences will diminish.

You could do a lot worse.

I agree with him. I would never want to date a woman if she would rather be with someone else at any point…so I’d rather her dump me and be with that guy than feel like she’s settling
