Yeah it's sadly probably still the most popular way people daye because of convenience. Even though it's mostly a scam and incredibly superficial, people still use it because it's online and easier to just swipe than go out and meet people.

And we wonder why so many people are struggling with dating. It's because it's mostly online dating. Fast food is fast and convenient but it's terrible quality and probably killing you.

I'll be honest, it was tough meeting people for years at first. But last year I met some really good people and got a lot more matches when I paid for a subscription. It's sad to say its rigged for free users. It really is. Subscriptions gives you priority for likes through boost modes (boosting your likes for 30 minutes), super likes, and unlimited swipes. But they are indeed worth it. Even if it's $100 for one year. Upgraded accounts also give you more things to put on your profile, the ability to see if the person saw your message, and the ability to filter what you are looking for as well, such as education, type of relationship you're looking for, if you want kids, if you want to date people who have kids or not, etcv. Upgraded accounts are indeed worth it. Even if it's $100 for one year.

Avoid Tinder like the plague because it's primarily for people looking for hookups or have no idea what the hell they want. Plus there's a ton of scammers or bots. You also have to be really good looking for hook ups (as a dude) anyway. I've had a couple of okay dates from them, but again, a lot of people looking for hook ups or don't know.

CoffeeMeets Bagel is a lot better for quality dates.

But anyway, I'd try a free version first. Make sure you put some good pictures and a decent bio. See if you like it. Again, subscriptions do make a huge difference.

I tried a couple years ago and had terrible luck. Tons of bots, scammers, catfish and people not even looking for relationships. I’ve heard from many people it’s only gotten worse since Covid. Now even the guys who go on there for hookups don’t even want to sort through all the fake profiles.

I think so, but it might be more of an age group thing.
As you get older going to bars etc to find someone just gets old.
You are oozing for more of a partner who enjoys many of the same things that you enjoy.
On line sites like it's just lunch, eharmony and others like them are good places to look.
Most people on them are serious about the same thing, looking for someone special.
Yes there are some looking for a hookup, but for most people it's a good place to start.

I tried for years off and on. No site worked. One was interested on a dating site, until she wanted to be friends first after I said I couldn't drive. I told her I'd get a taxi there and back, so it was irrelevant in her thought that she would have to pick me up.

I might be biased but I really think online dating bears semblance to night clubs and bars. It has a tendency to overly reward only the types of traits that can be demonstrated on first impressions: looks, fashion, shallow charm over deeper qualities. There are very few people I've found who ever found lifelong partners through online dating. Even my little sister, who is quite pretty and incredibly charming, had nothing but frustrations with it. She found her husband as I did my wife through a friend of a friend. I think networking like this in person is still the best way to go.

That's a tough one. I think regardless of whether or not you find a love interest along the way though, it's great to have good times with good company. I found it helpful to expand the friend group, inviting new people I met on the way (both sexes) into it and introducing them and encouraging others to do the same. I actually had given up on dating almost entirely but I kept expanding my inner circle like that and had a blast just doing that, and never felt very lonely as a result when I could hang out with good company of both sexes every weekend. Then it's almost by sheer coincidence that one of the new people introduced into that group would end up becoming my wife.

Some of my friends use Tinder to try to get some hookups... sometimes they succeed. I fortunately have never had to use a dating site to get a girlfriend or to hookup

I think it's heyday was 10-15 years ago. I had a good amount of luck with it back then. From what I hear nowadays it's terrible. I think it will soon be replaced by something else
