Is online dating still real dating?

We are 7000 miles away. He’s in his early 40s.

Met through a dating app, have been talking for 2 months.
He’s been texting everyday. We have had 4 video calls, at least one every week, all initiated by him.

He has called me baby, tells me I am very cute.

Texts me every morning and always asks me about my day and plans. Has talked about things he wants to do with me in future.

Plans to see me in summer.

I don’t know what we are, or if we are anything yet, but I feel like we communicate a lot. Almost like we are in a relationship.

He has told me what he wants to do when we go on a date.

So, are we online dating or what are we?

No such thing as real online dating. If two people can't see each other on a weekly or monthly basis than that isn't dating. I find it funny that all the people who want to date someone who lives 7k miles away are always broke. If they aren't broke then go jump on a plane once a week and properly date the person.

Online dating is not a real thing. Now if you meet someone online to date in real life with the mindset of getting married to that person, different story. I personally wouldn't do online dating, I need to be intimate and communicative. Now sure, things could change if you see him and you feel he's the one and move to his home country. Just factor in if you can find work in that country for yourself, a woman has to make sure she has all her priorities straight. You are an adult female so I won't bash you for talking to a man in his 40s. I hope it works out if you both love each other and feel a connection. All I ask, and this is from a guy's POV, do not drag it out where it leads to no where. Some people nowadays are so heartless they don't value or care about the other person's life or time spent and people won't get that time back. Beyond that I hope my post helps.

yeah basically, and vice versa. I was talking to a girl for 10 months and I was annoyed where she followed me on social media, she gave me her #, she suggested doing things outside, we live in the same city (20 mins away from each other), we are the same religion, oddly enough my brother inlaw's family are some what related to her side because of his last name, we did meet and have a nice date, we talked on the phone a lot, messaged on WhatsApp and social media, i'm a talkative guy who can make others laugh so i have a good personality I believe. Women and girls I feel like have to over think is he the right guy, does he have this and that but I can't change a girls mind if she's flip flopping and doesn't know what she wants or is stubborn. So with this person, both of you should be clear and direct on life goals, and other stuff.

there's online dating, to meet people and then meet up in real life and decide to start a real relationship... and then there's... texting someone 7000 miles away for months on end and having no real end goal and no real dates... i just don't see how they can progress because of how far away he is, etc... all things that you really need to talk to him about.

Yes it is. I was in a 2 year relationship with a guy online, he was my first boyfriend he came to see me and then I went to see him for 6 months. Then later moved to where he lives. We were together 8 years.

You're not dating, you're living in a fantasy world. The purpose of dating is either just to have fun enjoying each other's company without any desire for a serious relationship, OR, to determine if you WANT a serious, committed relationship with said person. What you're doing being 7,000 miles apart, is neither of those things.
