I'd say the ones that are least likely to be displaced by technology or changes in regulation. Right now, that looks like the skilled trades and engineering. That's the direction I pushed my students to consider and have introduced to my own sons, telling them that is what I'd do (it also helps that their cousins' father is a successful electrical engineer).

Lots! Doctors, veterinarians, lawyers, engineers, IT/technical specialists, a lot of blue collar jobs, pretty much any job that cannot be replaced by a computer.

Trades, nursing/med tech, military.

I think automation will hurt some trades so it might be necessary to shift gears as things progress. I think the highest paid talking head type job like doctors and lawyers will only be good careers so long as their legal monopoly on their trades remains in place.

So I think with the rising cost of health care/lack of doctors they could be an early one to get replaced in a big way. I think hands on roles medical are going to be needed for a long time yet but the wages and work conditions are likely to decrease as robotic substitutes gain viability over the next 20-30 years.

With the lack of understanding of their role and general distaste for the disagreeable disposition it takes to succeed in that field, I think lawyers will be one that has a high price tag on replacing. That said, it’ll be hard to get any laws passed changing who can be a lawyer/allowing AI lawyers so who knows when this will happen.

Trades wise I think it might reduce demand for certain in-factory trades but it’ll be a while before it can completely replace the need for it. With the shift towards trade protectionism I think it’s likely local manufacturing will continue to grow while becoming increasingly automated.

Military roles will likely shift but they’ll always need people so it’s going to always be a promising profession for those inclined to living on MREs.

Anything in technology. Until AI is able to diagnose and treat its own malfunctions, people who can build, repair and program technology will be the last to go.
