Him asking about your dad and mom like that seemed like a weird way to respond to your question. And if you got a bad vibe from it and felt like he was lying after, then I'd trust your gut feeling.

Comparing your relationship to your parents' is just odd. Every relationship is different. When a girl asks her boyfriend if he's obsessed with her even a little, she's not asking for some deep psychoanalysis - she just wants to feel cared about and special to him!

The fact that he didn't give you a straightforward "Of course I'm obsessed with you babe, you're the best!" and instead tried to logic his way out of it with that dad/mom comparison thing would be a yellow if not red flag for me. It's not a good sign if he can't even reassure you or make you feel secure in how he feels.

I'd keep my eyes open from now on. Pay attention if he seems distant or secretive. And don't be afraid to straight up tell him how things he says/does make you feel unsure. You deserve someone who openly adores you, not whoever this joker is being all vague and thinking their feelings are soooo complex, haha. Find you a dude who wants to shower you with affection, not riddles!
