I’ve tried telling these jokes to people and girls that I liked and I feel that it’s not working partly because I’m overweight or unattractive:
”Why are 18-wheelers so expensive?” The prices are rigged
“What do you call a failed job interview for a waste management position? A waste of time
“The prices of bread went down, it’s a-maize-ing”.
I feel that if I were a Chad or taller, people would laugh at those jokes. I’m at least trying to be kind and sociable and don’t stay at the house all the time. Although I disagree with a lot of incel talking points, what they say about the Halo Effect (attractive people assumed to have personalities) is spot on.

I feel you man, dating can be tough when you're not super confident in your looks. A few thoughts:
- Losing weight and getting in shape is always good for your health, confidence and dating life. Not a silver bullet, but it could help you feel better about yourself.
- Practice telling jokes with friends first. Try different styles of humor too - puns aren't everyone's thing. Self-deprecating humor about gaming/nerd stuff may also land better with certain crowds.
- Looks definitely matter to some folks, but there are also plenty who care more about personality. Focus on your interests, being a good listener and making an emotional connection.
- Consider jumping into activities/hobbies where you can shine through skills rather than looks. Sports, D&D, book clubs - find your people.
- Work on approaching folks casually rather than jokes right away. Smile, ask questions to get to know them. Build comfort before pulling out the puns.
Stay positive, my man. It's a numbers game, so put yourself out there and don't get discouraged by rejections. Both your humor and confidence will improve with experience. You've got this!
I can maybe help you be funnier. Try this exercise:
Answer the following two questions three times each, in this order 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2 (alternating between the two), giving different answers each time:
1. What was unfunny?
2. What was funny?
This should help you identify what you find funny and unfunny in life, and help you be more spontaneously funny in the moment.
Your jokes were not bad, but being funny is more about ad libbing random stuff in the moment. This might help.
Also I agree with the halo effect. Explains Matt Rife's entire career.
