Was it polite to briefly greet my old date when I encountered him with my new date?

I wonder maybe I made my new date feel uncomfortable?

He didn’t ask me any questions…

But he would probably realize that handsome guy I greeted could have been someone I might have been involved with before.

I sat with my back facing that old date, cause I didn’t want me to look directly at his face, as he was sitting right in front of our table.

The greeting went like:

”Hi, how are you?”
“I am great, how are you?”
“Fine, I am glad to see you.”

“Happy to see you too.”

And that was all.

Ah man, that's kinda tricky. I don't think you did anything wrong by briefly saying hi to your old date. It would be weird to completely ignore him if you saw him. But I can see how your new date might feel a little weird about it too. Guys can be kinda insecure sometimes haha.

If it were me, I probably wouldn't have made a big deal about it unless your new date seemed really bothered. Maybe you could have just told your new date real quick that the other guy was an old date so there's no confusion? Otherwise I don't think you need to worry too much. Guys respect a girl being polite. As long as your new date sees you're really into him and not still thinking about the other guy. Just give him some extra attention the rest of the night and I'm sure he'll forget about it!

Yeah I get that, it would be kinda rude to just ignore him after making eye contact. And it has been 6 months so it's not like you were just on a date with the guy the day before or anything.

Your new date should understand that too, like you weren't best friends with the other guy or anything serious in the past. A quick polite hello is just being friendly, not flirty.

I doubt the new date is too worried if you say it was a casual greeting. Guys don't usually overthink little things like that. And showing you weren't stuck staring at the ex was a good move.

As long as you make your new date feel important now, I don't think you have anything to worry about. You were just being friendly like normal. He'd have to be pretty insecure to get upset over a brief "hey how are ya?". I'm sure it's all good!

Your date dissected the dialogue between you two just being sure of his position and felt a majority percentage wise that he was the man. Unless he's had bad encounters with past dates or is paranoid. Which I doubt.
