Would you date someone pro-choice or pro-life?

I think it's important to have this conversation with a future partner. I would like to know what we will do if I accidentally get pregnant.

I am pro-life personally. In the sense, abortion should be legal but I will never get an abortion. I want to date a guy with the same values of me. So, if I were to get pregnant then I am keeping the baby. He should know this about me.

I don't think I could date someone who is comfortable voting to give more power to the sort of people who advocate for pro life policies. If someone decided they don't want one themselves but will stand up for the right of others, I might even admire that more, really - standing up for people you disagree with is at once the most critical and most difficult test of one's humanity there is, and those who pass it should exclusively be running the world, in my opinion.
And its not even that I'm opposed to "protecting the unborn." I just think the people who call themselves pro life are going about it in a way that seems more concerned with spite than life.

For example, we could publicly fund child care. That's a policy that would encourage more women to "choose life" but the pro life people are violently opposed to it, dismissing it as socialism, some even openly saying the woman needs to struggle with no help so she learns her lesson about having sex outside of marriage. That is in no way taking "life" seriously. That's advocating for spite and using the unborn as a tool not a life. I couldn't date someone like that, no.

I could never date someone who was pro-choice. I want to be a father, and if she were okay with killing unborn children who's to say she wouldn't kill mine? I wouldn't be able to live with myself after that.

I could never date someone pro-life. I'm pro-choice myself. I have no idea what I'd do if I got pregnant tomorrow, but I'd want a partner who would respect whatever decision I made.

I could date either, and I have. That doesn't change my opinion. If I'm willing to live with her opinion, and she is willing to live with my opinion, whether our opinions agree or differ, that's okay for a relationship to work.

Deep down, the decision to abort a pregnancy or not is up to the woman. It really doesn't matter what the man thinks.

Having said all that, it's good for you and your partner to agree on the subject of abortion. Please be aware though, that opinions can change over time, especially if/as situations change.

When dating I think it's important that your core beliefs are in alignment while other aspects of life that are debatable don't really matter. This for many is a core belief so yes, this is a conversation that should be had so you can learn what the other person's beliefs are.

The thing about relationships is that there needs to be an expectation of compromise but a partner should never ask you to compromise on a core belief. Breaking a core belief can be a catalyst to mental health issues.

I would say it depends on thier reasoning. As a Christian I feel it my duty to defend the sanctity of life. So you might think me pro-life. But I can't stand the thought of a life coming into this world without a mother to love it. But I also cannot condone being pro-choice. My main complaint in this world is the Blaise attitude towards abortion. I think it should be viewed as the nuclear option, unthinkable, and absolute last resort. And until that becomes the attitude of society again you'll see me side with anti-abortion, not with pro-life if that makes any sense.

You know that pregnancy doesn’t happen “by accident”, right. There are very few ways to get pregnant, and they all require a series of deliberate choices. If you don’t want to get pregnant, it’s actually perfectly easy to completely avoid.
The term “carelessly” fits better in that context.

I would not be with a woman who is selfish enough to abort my child so i am more likely to date someone who is pro life. Abortion should only be allowed in certain circumstances, not used as a form of convenience or to evade responsibilities. Im not putting myself through that for any woman.

If you think abortion should be legal then you're pro-choice, because you want yourself and others to be able to choose differently from each other. Pro-choice doesn't mean you want an abortion, it just means you want abortion to not be illegal.

I am also pro-choice and would never date anyone pro-life, because I live in a state where abortion is illegal and if I ever for some horrible reason needed one, I would be scared he would get me sent to prison for it...
