I dated someone for almost 2 years but at the end of the day my heart still chose the other person who i liked and known for years. I feel like i am a terrible person for having the soft spot for the guy still when i used to date.

You're not a terrible person. Feelings are complicated, and it's normal to still care about someone even after a relationship ends. A few thoughts:

- You can't help who your heart is drawn to. Don't beat yourself up over that.

- Ending things with your ex, while difficult, shows maturity and care for their wellbeing too. Continuing something just because of obligation would be unfair.

- Now you have clarity on who/what you really want. That's valuable self-knowledge, even if you messed up along the way.

- As long as you were honest with your ex about your feelings changing, that's all anyone can ask. They may be hurt now but will move on in time.

- Focus on being the best girlfriend you can be now, to make up for any past mistakes. Your current guy chose you back - that says he understands and forgives any doubts.

- We all make relationship mistakes while learning. Grow from this and be more sure of your choices going forward. Your ex will heal; you get your happy ending.

So relax - you followed your heart, and that's not wrong. As long as you treated people with care and respect when parting ways, I think you're good. Live and learn - don't dwell on past regrets anymore.

They say girls always have a special place in their heart for their first loves.
I guess it can be the same for guys. I still have a soft spot for my first, second, not the third but definitely the fourth… the fourth wow… yea the fourth.
The point is it’s not unusual to still have feelings for people you loved in the past. But as we all know the past is the past. All we can do is move forward. You need to move forward.
