I speak German, English, and Spanish fluently. I know some French and Italian too. I was crushing on a Spanish guy hard, but he didn't know anything but Spanish. So I bought a Rosetta Stone beginner to advance in Spanish so I could talk with him. I was too late! He moved away, but the lessons have come in handy.
Anonymous(45 Plus)1 yI am fluent in over six million forms of communication…
There was, I think, a Bruce Willis movie where he said “I speak only two languages… English and BAD English.” That’s sort of where I am.
I did German in high school, but it wasn’t super easy for me, and I have probably forgotten a good chunk of it… but I can have a brief conversation with a three or four year old who speaks German (I know this because for a while I taught preschool, and a kid would come in speaking in German to mom, so to make it easier to change or make him feel welcome, I’d have a small conversation with him, and say hello and goodbye in German.
I did pick up a tiny amount of Mandarin because a friend was from Yunnan in China, and I taught her kid, so I picked up some small phrases because she’d speak both to him. I have probably forgotten most of it.
I think ASL is probably the easiest in some ways. I have wanted to learn a bit, but just haven’t had the money, or memory for it. I would try to learn for a significant other, but I think it would take constant work.11 Reply- 1 y
I've always wanted to learn ASL. I know some simple signs, hi, how are? Love you, Bye, and That's Bullshit! (Make bullhorns, index and pinky, closed fist facing one way, and the other hand connected to it opposite way opening and closing fingers) it takes a certain desire to want to learn another language. Usually people do when they like a certain culture. What I did for Spanish, (German and English was used since I was an infant) was immerse myself in Spanish radio and TV, watch kid shows, and Rosetta Stone. Took about 6 months. Found it fun when i started dreaming in Spanish. Then I knew I was fluent. It did take a lot of work and time.

If I was in a relationship with a foreigner, we would work together to learn each other's language.

1 yI too used Rosetta stone to learn Portuguese when i met a Brazilian woman online. Nothing much came of it. I haven’t chatted with her in years and i don’t remember most of the language i learned.
10 Reply 3.9K opinions shared on Dating topic. A few. Yeah I learned Italian for a guy who learned French for me. Good times.
10 Reply16.6K opinions shared on Dating topic. Having attempted to do this in Japanese and Korean in the past, I'll stick to the languages I can comfortably hit on women in (German, Spanish, Portuguese, and French).
00 Reply1.2K opinions shared on Dating topic. If I like someone I would yeah. I once knew a Portuguese girl and I was tempted to learn Portuguese.
I met an American girl last week and I would definitely learn American for her...
German is funny though. It's not sexy, is it?
19 Reply- 1 y
I guess if you say something sexy in German, it can be. OK, learn American? Does that mean not pronouncing your vowels correctly? Not downing the American accent, by the way. Clear you speak English. Great, you would learn a language for someone.

Rosetta Stone, videos and books meant to teach kids, Spanish TV, radio, food, and friends who are Spanish. Takes commitment! Utilize all the above, and you'll be fluent.

Definitely not the same thing. Some Dutch people get upset if you refer to their language as German
- 1 y
Both are West Germanic with similarities in words. Deutschland, and Nederlands, two different nations with their own unique past, laws, and government. Today, many Dutch speak German as they teach it in school. And they even hang out as friends. Older Dutch people are somewhat sore after the Third Reich.
1 yI speak English, Portuguese, and Spanish. I tried learning German but switched to Spanish for school. I enjoy learning languages, but I probably wouldn’t learn one just to impress someone if I didn’t care about the language
10 ReplyCatalan, Spanish and English. Then there's some German, Italian and Chinese. I learnt some Japanese long ago and got to learnt some expressions during my short relationship with a Japanese woman. When that ended, Japanese learning ended too. Might consider retake it over time.

We've long since moved on. I have used the language Spanish often in business and flirting.
Opinion Owner1 yTime doesn't matter if you truly love someone. Does he know your feelings? Do he have a new girl in his life? Have you ever expressed your feelings to him? If the answer is no to all these questions, try considering expressing him your feelings by finding him by all efforts. You could win a beautiful love story that you'll never forget
- 1 y
We both have a SO now. There is that lingering what could have been in the air. I am happy for him.
Opinion Owner1 yThen you should forget him. Possibly hard but it's best for you. You can guess he's not right for you and doesn't deserve you. If he deserved in any way of you, he would have not given up on you. Find a better guy than him and start spending more time and more feelings on the new guy which will erase your feelings for this undeserving guy who lost you. Let him be with any girl and it shouldn't matter to you. You should only focus on living a best life with a best guy than the undeserving guy you lost. He isn't a loss. It's your win since you are now a person who knows what qualities a best guy will have. He will never give up on you and wants you as much as you want him. You got a chance to find the best and more better than the previous undeserving guy
