How many languages can you speak? Would you learn a language to talk to your crush?

I speak German, English, and Spanish fluently. I know some French and Italian too. I was crushing on a Spanish guy hard, but he didn't know anything but Spanish. So I bought a Rosetta Stone beginner to advance in Spanish so I could talk with him. I was too late! He moved away, but the lessons have come in handy.

There was, I think, a Bruce Willis movie where he said “I speak only two languages… English and BAD English.” That’s sort of where I am.

I did German in high school, but it wasn’t super easy for me, and I have probably forgotten a good chunk of it… but I can have a brief conversation with a three or four year old who speaks German (I know this because for a while I taught preschool, and a kid would come in speaking in German to mom, so to make it easier to change or make him feel welcome, I’d have a small conversation with him, and say hello and goodbye in German.

I did pick up a tiny amount of Mandarin because a friend was from Yunnan in China, and I taught her kid, so I picked up some small phrases because she’d speak both to him. I have probably forgotten most of it.

I think ASL is probably the easiest in some ways. I have wanted to learn a bit, but just haven’t had the money, or memory for it. I would try to learn for a significant other, but I think it would take constant work.

Other than my native English, I can get by in French and Spanish. And I can count and know some phrases in several other languages.

If I was in a relationship with a foreigner, we would work together to learn each other's language.

I too used Rosetta stone to learn Portuguese when i met a Brazilian woman online. Nothing much came of it. I haven’t chatted with her in years and i don’t remember most of the language i learned.

Having attempted to do this in Japanese and Korean in the past, I'll stick to the languages I can comfortably hit on women in (German, Spanish, Portuguese, and French).

I met an American girl last week and I would definitely learn American for her...

I’m native Italian and I can speak English at a decent level.
I know a bit of Spanish and French and I know how to transliterate Greek and Cyrillic alphabets, does basic Latin count 😂?

And yes, I’d learn a new language for a crush if it is not so different from the European ones

I speak Spanglish... and I could most definitely learn Portuguese, Italian or French, perhaps Catalá as well... they're too familiar with Spanish so, I am sure it wouldn't take that long either

Catalan, Spanish and English. Then there's some German, Italian and Chinese. I learnt some Japanese long ago and got to learnt some expressions during my short relationship with a Japanese woman. When that ended, Japanese learning ended too. Might consider retake it over time.
