It isn't the worst idea. I don't particularly like it because I want to really get to know the person I am dating. So if it is a first date I prefer it to be the two of us so that there aren't any distractions and I have my attention on the other person getting to know them and whether there will be subsequent dates. Now the argument can be made that it is much safer to go with a friend and their boyfriend or girlfriend. It also makes it a little more comfortable since you have someone familiar with you. It can help break silence and make you more relaxed. Now if we are not talking about a first or second date then yeah I am all for it. It is no different than hanging out with a group of friends that have boyfriends or girlfriends.
