Invented? I presume adam and eve... Kissing is, simply put, an act of love.

Ancient Mesopotamia. The earliest recorded evidence of kissing may be from the Barton Cylinder, a clay tablet from Mesopotamia that dates back to around 2400 B. C. E. . The tablet is a mythological text written in Sumerian that depicts a romantic kiss between two deities (smooching between gods and commoners). Additionally, a clay model from 1800 B. C. E. depicts a nude couple kissing and having sex on a bed.
Vedic Sanskrit manuscripts. Another documented evidence of kissing comes from a text from India in 1500 B. C. E. Transcribed from oral history, these Indian scriptural texts may contain the earliest literary kiss
Sumerian texts. Various texts describe kissing in relation to erotic acts, possibly as a postcoital activity...

You got the most touch nerves on your lipps even more than what you have on your fingertipps. Its very intimiate beeing this close toghether. Kissing raises happy hormones, if you make out with your partner you will feel like packed in wool afterwards. And I heard it decreases stress aswell.
