What are some signs that your (male) friends with benefits is catching feelings for you?

I got out of relationship earlier this year and embarked on a friends with benefits situation with a guy in my social circle. I made it clear that being that I just got out of a relationship, I work a demanding full time job, and in my final year of my master’s program, I’m not looking for anything serious.

Lately, he’s been doing things that may suggest that he is catching feelings, but perhaps I’m looking too far into things. I’ve done a friends with benefits situation in my mid-twenties and ended up catching unreciprocated feelings and I would hate for this guy to be on the receiving end of things.

Here are some signs he may be catching feelings:

- He wants to spend more time with you outside of just hooking up - like hanging out casually, getting food together, etc. friends with benefits is usually just about sex but if he's looking for non-physical bonding that could be a sign.

- He's being more affectionate even when you're not intimate. Doing little things to touch you or make you feel cared for could show emotions are growing.

- He asks more about your personal life and wants to feel more connected to you as a full person, not just physically. Curiosity about you beyond the bedroom.

- He's communicating more feelings in general or seeming a little more emotionally invested in your reactions to things.

- Maybe he's hinted at wanting something exclusive or long-term even if not directly. Testing the waters there.

It's good you recognize your own boundaries - just be upfront with him about keeping it casual since you're busy. If his signs of catching feels continue, you may need to pump the brakes a bit or end it. Clear communication is key so no one gets hurt. Hopefully you can stay friends. But don't lead him on if you just see him as friends with benefits.

I could think of a few: starts to do more 'sweet' things for you, pays more attention to the little things you do, starts to set up more frequent visits and may also attempt at setting up 'romantic' dates ot at least, more dates in a less sexual setting

Why not just list the signs he’s showing and ask if those things mean something? I guess it wouldn’t matter either way because regardless of our feedback none of it is factual, only he can give you that. You’re the one in the situation dealing with him directly, so I’d you feel like he’s showing signs of wanting more then simply fall back. Why risk putting him through what you went through all for the sake of having some d*ck on speed dial….
