Do men actually believe it doesn't count as cheating if he isn't serious about you?

I just found out my boyfriend slept with multiple women 3 months ago.

I asked him about it and he said he had been faithful to me since we started talking 7 months ago. When I brought up evidence I found that he cheated 3 months ago, he changed his answer to "well, we both were until I finally decided to be serious with you in August". He said it so cold.

I immediately hung up on him and blocked him on everything. I'm heartbroken.

1-2 months prior to him cheating, we were talking for hours and texting everyday, seeing each other regularly. He told me he could see himself marrying me and having a baby with me. He was planning trips with me. He told his mom about me and said how much he cared about me. He told me he wanted to be exclusive and had even told me that he wanted to have casual sex but he was faithful to me. I was actually faithful.

I also realized that his decision to be serious about me was only when he asked his ex girlfriend and then roommate to move out of his house.

I am sorry to hear about your situation, that is truly heartbreaking. Recently I got myself into a situation where I was seeing someone, but we never brought up the "what are we" conversation. When I brought it up, he said no to being in a relationship with me. To my surprised, he started acting like I was cheating on him and was very furious when he found out I was talking to other people. But again, in my situation, nothing was ever made clear that we had any commitments towards each other. In your case, it sounds like he really gave the impression that you were the only one he was with. Clearly that was not the case, and the fact the he withheld that information from you says it all. Cheating involves a lack of respect for your partner's feelings and the trust you've built together, and men are masters at it. The fact they try to sugarcoat the situation just makes it even more challenging to take.

It's cheating for sure because he said he wanted to be exclusive. As for me, it's cheating starting on the first date. That's just my standards tho.
