Guy im seeing loves his exs daughter?

I’ve been on a few dates with a man i met in the mall about a month ago.
We are still getting to know one another and taking our time.

On our date last night he told me he keeps in contact with his recent ex because of her child. So i asked him how old was the child and he said “1”

So i said “ i didn’t know you had a one year old” and he says “well she isn’t mine but i wanted to be her stepdad “

And he said “I’ve only seen her twice but my ex talked about her so much i felt like she was my daughter”

“So i asked. Why keep in contact with your ex over a child that isn’t yours and that you’ve only seen twice

And he said “because I’m fond of her”

TL😃R; is it strange he keeps in contact with his ex or a child that isn’t his and that he doesn’t have a bond with

Do you know why him and his ex broke up? And how long before he met you did this happen? Because the child could easily just be an excuse for him to keep in touch with his ex, and you don’t know him well enough yet to stick up for him in that way. To me, that makes more sense than keeping in touch over a child he met twice. He said he wanted to be her stepdad, probably wanted that family with her mom as well. Not saying this to hurt you — none of this should hurt within a month. Might just be better to call it a red flag and end it.
