What is the point of casual dating/relationships?

Why spend time and energy (and sometimes resources) getting to know someone if you don’t intend on making this a serious, long-term relationship?

So many barbs in this whale spear that I can't name them all. They're all selfish reasons though.

Males and even some females: Sex. That's the whole point of it for some.

What I'm warned about females the most: Using me for meals, to entertain her (attention) so dance monkey dance, maybe money in general, could be setting me up for a couple guys to mug me (money), ...

... and I'm not going to list them all.

it always boils down to money or a form of it, sex and/or attention seeking.

This is why I want to be a force that speaks for not dating at all. It's too formal, too many expectations and it get's used by attention seekers (narcissists) and people with some sort of histrionic disorder as a tool.

Hang out instead. Why does it need to be a date? Why make it this formal event that even requires playing dress up?

And since I'm guilty of the sex only (NSA relationships) I'll speak on that. We have what's called a "meet'n'greet" which is just checking each other out in physical form real fast to decide. We basically know why we're talking from the start and what we want, and it doesn't require a formal "date" and could just be a quick hug in the grocery store and then we announce our decision later online to each other. Easy out for me or her... and if you've been on a date where you got catfished, you can see the value in that. It's too bad the federal government basically took that lifestyle away because there also happened to be hookers on sites like Craigslist personals. It was a good time where casual sex was waaaaaaaaay easier to find. Selfish of us... yes... but we're just scratching an itch and we both have reasons we wanted that instead of a committed obligatory relationship.

Sometimes people just really want to fuck.

Men like sexual variety, young women don't want to settle down yet and want to play the field, see if they can find the most valuable man they can. The trouble is, in many cases young women don't understand that the reason their value is so high is precisely because they are young, and men are instinctually programmed to be attracted to young females because of fertility. So what often happens is they play the field and keep thinking someday maybe in their late twenties or early 30s they'll finally settle down with a very high value man, not realizing that by that point they won't be all that appealing to most high value men. So they end up settling with someone they're only somewhat attracted to, who is also settling because really he would prefer a younger woman but can't get one, and they're both unhappy and there's a 50% chance they'll get divorced. That's the reality of relationships post feminism.

I understand people date for different reasons and I totally respect that. For me it's always been with the intention of having a long term partner and eventually leading to marriage. I wouldn't wanna date casually if it's not going anywhere. To me that's a waste of time and doesn't add anything of significance to my life. Maybe people like dating casually to see what they're into and just having fun.

In my case, all my relationships have been long term for years at a time and I wouldn't want short lived flings because that defeats the purpose of why I date in the first place lol 😉

All that to say, maybe they just want companionship or a way to avoid loneliness. Maybe they don't want to commit to a single person and want to keep their options open. My thing is, if they are lacking in areas that you need to find in someone else, this is not the person you are meant to be with. Your person should fulfill you in all aspects and anything missing or that makes you step outside of that relationship is a warning sign

Some people don't want a committed relationship, yet they want to experience being with a member of the opposite sex. For those people, casual dating/relationship and maybe even casual sex makes a lot of sense.

Lust and infatuation.

It's fun in the short term and gives us satisfaction. It often hurts us long term emotionally though.

I have grown out of that and now personally want more meaningful connection and hopefully marriage then children.

There really isn't any.

In theory you get the excitement of enjoying intimate moments with someone who you'll only have a fleeting chance to share a part of your life with.

In practice, casual dating boils down to being treated like shit by someone who is trying to extract as much as they can from you while giving you as little as they can of themselves to avoid getting hurt.

There really isn't much point to them, except that it's just people wanting their cake and to eat it too.. They want somebody to fulfill their immediate needs without taking the time to form something long time.. Probably the people who don't like hooking up but don't know if they are "ready for a relationship" just yet..
