My boyfriend used Google Translate to decipher a conversation my family was having. I had no idea until my brother told me about this recently. I feel beyond disrespected. This a huge red flag to me. Am I right to feel this way? I'm very pissed and just disgusted. I'm gonna have to confront him.

Surely by now you must have spotted you don't speak the same language. Plus you do know it's the height of bad manners to speak a different language in front of someone who doesn't understand it

It was a conversation between my parents, I was not even involved in it. My parents don't speak English very well. How ignorant of you to just assume it was done on purpose

Well why were they speaking a foreign language in front of him and not wanting him to understand? That’s actually quite rude. If a conversation is meant to be personal, it should be had in private. It’s similar to people whispering to each other while someone else is in the room and not wanting that other person to hear what they’re saying.

Anything you say in front of someone isn't private. He has a right to understand what's being said in front of him, whether he learns the language or uses a tool to translate it.
