Shy male coworker interested or not?

I thought my male coworker liked me, I felt there was mutual attraction, he would stare at me from a distance and lock eyes into a deep gaze often.

I contact him on Teams message every so often, but he never initiates a message with him. What I have noticed is he responds like super fast, usually immediately.

He lately has been sending heart emojis to my messages and then said he looked forward to seeing me at a Christmas team day. i never responded with emojis back. If I have a work question, he is super helpful and always seems to want to help.

During the team day we spoke towards the end and he seemed nervous. He also found out that I’m not single.

Since then I feel he’s been avoidant and more blunt without emotion when responding to messages. He’s also stopped engaging in any eye contact.
