He is basically telling you, that you’re his fuckable toy, without committing to you; but YOU have to commit! I’ve seen it a lot, calling HER “wifey” without the ring and without the commitment, while she maybe fully aware he is married, or she’s the side chick.

Like "What is the reaction if I call my girlfriend "wifey""
or things like that.

Or like someone starting out as friends but doing videos together

or things like that.

At least in some cases it seems like a way to gauge their interest.

Especially if there are two people who are not yet in a relationship,
To say something that suggest you want to be in a relationship with them,
but saying it in a way that you can play it of as a joke if they are not interested could feel less risky or awkward if they don't want the same.
