I’m Maya, and I’ve known David, my mom’s best friend’s son, for a while. We’ve always just said casual hellos, but things started changing after a family trip to Las Vegas. I helped David with his English (he’s originally from Armenia), and he seemed really appreciative, which made me feel like we connected. Afterward, he became way more open, joking around with my family and just seeming much more comfortable. At my mom’s birthday, he even suggested that our families go on a trip to Santa Barbara together, which made me feel like he wanted to spend more time with me. But here’s the kicker: I caught him looking at me while I was dancing with his aunt, and when I saw the video, he had this soft smile, like he was quietly admiring me. Now I’m wondering if I’m overthinking it or if maybe he likes me, but I’m not sure if I’m just imagining things or if he actually feels the same.

Well it’s definitely possible and it’s completely normal for someone to catch feelings for someone else of the opposite sex.

How do you feel about him? Do understand too that he’s a little bit of a risk but if you like him enough you should take the chance. Because look you never know unless you try and maybe he’s nervous because of the risk involved last thing you want is to wait too long and be moves on.

If you’re not really that attracted then just continue being friends. If you want you can still talk to him and ask him how he feels and if he admits he has feelings. Let him down easy just explain you genuinely like him as a friend but feel no romantic attraction and don’t want to waste his time. That you wish him the best or even play match maker. But if he is forward be kind but honest.

The risk of rejection is scary if you are into him. But you don’t want to wonder what could have, should have, or would have later on. Not to mention wasting all that time hung up on someone whose not into you anyways.

I do think he at least feels somewhat attracted so I would say go for it.

You're overthinking it. It's part of mediterranean DNA to overthink every little thing till the moment is dead and buried. Some of us even dig it up again in the future... in an argument or discussion, especially with family and close friends.

More objectively, it's clear from the title of your question that you're overthinking things. "My mom's best friend's son" -- who cares? He's a guy and you're a girl. Why is the rest of that phrase important to you? Perhaps bc you're bumping into each other all the time bc your parents are close friends... in which case he possibly just sees you as a great gal in general, RIGHT? Right.

And from the video replay -- it's not the NFL, why are you obsessing over the video? How many times did you watch the parts with HIM in them to FINALLY notice that he's kind of smiling? Come on, kid. You're really just into this guy. It doesn't mean he's necessarily interested in you as more than friends.

When a guy looks at you PERHAPS it's bc he is physically drawn to the way you look or PERHAPS you're doing something that makes him look at you in the moment. But unless you've made eye contact all night and chatted each other up... it's likely nothing, esp if he's also mediterranean. Believe me. The guys can be very fickle, esp. if they feel they have options or that you feel a little less for them than they feel for you.
