Why were relationships and marriages so much easier back then?

I still remember back during the late 1990s and early 2000s where everyone would be married with families by the time they hit 30. It wasn't tremendously hard to find someone. Nobody was willowing in loneliness, desperation. Nowadays, you have an entire generation of people who can't "find the right person" or every relationship they get into is doomed to fail at some point. Back during the 1990s, relationships just occurred and flourished. People had more friends, more sex, less lonely. Nowadays, almost everyone is lonely and afraid of getting with each other. Many people even condeming themselves to a life of loneliness, family-less because they are too afraid to enter a relationship again.

What has happened to our society to where relationships have began to get so lonely and dysfunctional?

With the internet we all have every theoretical option on earth so we all feel like no one is good enough

Back in the day Brad Pitt was a face on the big screen you only saw in movies or magazines
Completely out of reach.

And of course that’s an extreme example

But now people think there’s a chance for fairy tales so they hold off and live in fear of missing out eventually killing all the realistic chances in front of them

I think they meant more to people back then. It was worth the fight the pain to make it work. Now adays Everything is throwaway if it doesn't work , throw it away , get something new and for me that's just wrong but that's The way the new generation is doing things

I was in a relationship in the 1990s that failed. It was an easy relationships to start, but it didn't last.

Thinking that there was some historic time when relationships were easier is a myth.

Relationships have always been difficult for a variety of reasons: Two people are coming from cultural, economic, and socially different backgrounds. Even if their backgrounds are similar, their personalities differ. What are their hopes and dreams? Unlikely those are the same.

My parents were married in the 1950s. They had similar goals, were from the same social circles, religion, economic backgrounds, were engaged more than a year to get to know each other. But they argued about their differences.

They were a GREAT couple, however. Loved each other, their two children, had wonderful family ties, knew how to have fun as a couple, traveled with us, kept informed, voted, volunteered to help others.

Long-time relationships have difficulties AND pluses. But some mythological perfection from some time in the past. Never existed. Never will exist.

We do the best we can with what we have between us.

In the 1990s I’ve learned that people didn’t have smart phones. Ig they had internet but it wasn’t as fast. So society was full of people who left their houses to commune with others at churches and bars and bowling alleys. They would meet with friends and not be isolated at home. So all you described in the question was a normal part of day to day living.

Contrast that to today where even if people go out to dinner many are distracted by phones and pads and tech. They are not talking to their friends face to face and many choose to stay at home and get food delivered and use tech to “connect” with others. That lifestyle seems to cause a rise in depression and lower marriages and nuclear families.

Obv it’s more complicated than just the internet and smart tech but that’s part of it

For women finding a traditional relationship has actually become easier per se as there is a surplus of single guys looking for a long term relationship.

Of course as women's income has increased it's harder for them now to find a man who is out earning them.

For men seeking a traditional relationship there is a deficit of women seeking the same and a relatively worse job market.

Also there is MeToo having discouraged men from making moves outside dating apps/sites.

Then there is the fat epidemic making people of both genders less dateable.

Some women also as individuals have become more picky. 90:s women wouldn't have cared if the guy is half a inch under 6 feet tall or listens to different music.

But you as a individual can totally find a long term relationship. If you take care of yourself you are already ahead of most of your competitors and fuckboys are ensuring that there are fewer of them.

The illusion of options. Before the rise of the internet. Really took hold and later social media. People went out into the world and talked and had to get to know each other. Now people can stay home and create their desired world (within reason). People used to be relegated to people in their area. Not they THINK their options could be on the other side of the world. People turn people on and off like a light switch because they can. Well, after a while, that's going to have a ripple effect. Now everyone does it. Anything and everything is fair, Game. It's a combination of things, such as the ravaging effects feminism has had on the nuclear family and gender relations, a female biased court system that financially incentives women to divorce their husbands and remove fathers from their children's lives, a Democrat party and their mainstream media partners that thrive on the perception of sexism against women even when it doesn't exist, and will go out of their way to fan the flames of sexism and racism because it benefits them, and of course the inevitable backlash from men in the form of MGTOW, Red Pill and the so-called manosphere. It's become a vicious cycle and I see no end in sight.

Well, part of the reason is because back then people were not so rigid nor they had so much attitude. Back then people were ready to compromise, adjust and work things out rather than just walking away.
