Is he really interested?

This guy and I met through mutual friends at a party. We left the group at a point, enjoying each other's company, sitting and talking eventually exchanging numbers. Parted ways with a goodbye kiss.

Eventually found out he's been hurt badly in the past and doesn't believe in relationships right now because of this. We have been getting to know one another as friends and do see one another when out with friends.

Drinks are shared, hugs are given. My every move is watched.

Is he scared?

I mean, nothing her indicates that he's scared, aside from you having found out that he had been hurt, and is not looking for a relationship. SO... yea, he's scared.

It does sound like his actions contradict this view of him not looking for a relationship.

Did he tell you that he doesn't want a relationship? Or did that come from somewhere else.

If he's told you this himself. Then you should believe him. He is not interested. Despite how it might seem. The answer is "no" until he says out loud that he feels differently about him being in a relationship. Otherwise... don't make the mistake of not believing what he is telling you. He means it.

If that information didn't come from him. Then you can pretty much ignore it. Or rather, pretend that you don't know this. And proceed like normal... assuming he is interested by his actions and words, just like you always would. Don't let what someone else heard him say to them (at some point) mean anything. Not until HE confirms it.

You need to talk to him about where things are going with you two... if he hasn't already answered that (by explaining how he doesn't want a relationship).

Yeah, he’s seeing if your actions & words are genuine or fake. Once a guy gets hurt a certain way, he doesn’t want to get hurt like that again. So if you genuinely like him and want to get to know him better & possibly see a relationship with him, take it slow but also understand where he’s coming from. And then some point down the line, have a real conversation with him about it and your true intentions

Yes of course he has now become self protective. It is not more important for him to protect himself rather than explore the possibilites in dating, love and relationships.
