Would you date someone who looks similar and has similar personality/traits as you?

Years ago I met a guy on a dating site that could pass as my twin brother, we even had similar traits and personality. I found him attractive and we exchanged small talk, but ultimately he opened up and told me it wouldn’t work he was looking for someone who was opposite or complementary quirks and traits. It was an interesting experience to say the least!

The interesting thing is there's a concept in psychology known as the similarity and familiarity attraction effect. We are literally subconsciously more attracted to people that share similar traits to us, both physically and personality wise.

When you wake up and take a look in the mirror each morning, you familiarize your appearance. You get used to it and learn to love it over time. What's familiar is comfortable. Whether their appearance is similar to your family's or yourself, as long as you're familiar with them, subconsciously you'll be more attracted.

And when it comes to similarities in terms of personality, what do you think creates more conflict

Maybe, I look at my sister who is said to look a lot like me, maybe almost a female version, and... That's weird.. I guess if she didn't look like my sister and more like me personally just with feminine features, I would probably be opened.. I wouldn't mind similar personality traits though.. Although I would want her to compliment me in the places that it counts..

If someone looks similar to me - my first thought would be that maybe they could be my adopted brother or sister.
That happened on a TV show I saw once. They were a couple and were going to get married and somehow they found out they are siblings. Man!!

Maybe. I suppose a relationship would work better if we have many of the same interests, hobbies, religious upbringing, etc. I’m sure that anyone I find will probably not be a perfect match as far as behavior, interests, opinions, etc, so that’s not an issue for me.


But looking like each other? I suppose that it would depend on if WE thought we looked “too much alike” that it’d be weird.
