Girls, Why would a girl that has a crush on me hide the fact that she is newly single?

My colleague has a crush on me and is interested in dating me but we weren't able to due to her having a boyfriend. She split up with her boyfriend a month ago but has kept it secret from me (I found out through someone else) but still acts interested and flirts. Why would a girl that's interested hide the fact she's single?

Things like that are what’s making the situation so confusing in your mind. You assume that crush you have is still mutual just because you found out once upon a time that she was interested in pursuing something. That may not be the case anymore and you wouldn’t know any better because instead of communicating with her like an adult, you continue to form your viewpoints off how she’s acting and what you think it means vs what she’s actually saying to you, which is nothing.


I’ll tell you something that you probably didn’t know, but not all flirting is done with the intent of pursuing something after. You have created this dynamic of being flirty with one another, so in my opinion she isn’t acting differently, flirting with you is just a fun pastime at work. She’s intentionally not telling you about her breakup and I think the most obvious reason aside from not wanting to actually pursue romance with you is that she isn’t fully done with her ex. Breakups aren’t always liner — over and done. Sometimes people keep in contact, go back and forth, they’re still figuring it out.
