Why would a guy who (romantically) rejected you be so determined to remain friends?

We weren’t really friends before this and he is dating another woman. He is encouraging me to date other guys and giving me dating advice.

I don’t care to be friends with a failed talking stage and don’t really see the point.

So don't be friends with him then... that's your choice.

1. Some guys to this to keep you as a backup option in case they are suddenly interested in you. He's greedy...

2. Some guys want to let you down easy and don't care for you but don't want to see you all crushed and hurt either. He's got a weak spot for you.

3. He may end up setting up a friends with benefits deal with you... don't take it.

There's nothing wrong with WANTING to remain friends. But being determined shows selfish and lack of empathy in EITHER gender that does this.

When you reject someone you're ONLY a good friend if you consider how that rejection affected THEM. I would never EXPECT a woman I rejected to remain friends with me. I would tell them I'm still there for them (maybe not right away obviously), but I would understand if they needed thier space from me.

If you don't want to be friends, don't be friends. Doesn't matter why he wants it.

But fr. might be that he just genuinely liked you as a person even if he doesn't see you romantically. Might be some sort of personal gratification (which could be netural or it could be negative for you).

Not super sure, but I think what matters is how you feel about it and what you want to do.

I can understand feeling bad, but he is acting dare I say desperate at the extent in which he is going to get my attention and be friends. I’ve blocked him and he keeps trying.
