Is it normal for two women who are friends to have feelings for the same guy?

My girlfriend's friend admitted to her that she had feelings for me at one point, but decided to back off when my girlfriend and I started dating.

Yeah. Obviously if they have similar taste in clothes and music and such it’s possible to like the same sort of people.


Personally, if I see a friend likes someone I’m interested I typically back off. There was ONE exception, which was a girl who flirts outrageously with EVERY guy and has to have EVERY guy’s attention otherwise she puts and carries on with some dramatic scene.

Ohh okay, that makes sense then don’t you think? You were friends before, she probably had a crush at that time but you know how women are, we don’t usually make the first move.

She may have thought you liked her as well at some point and would make a move, but instead drifted to your now-gf.

If your friend is sweet, non-confrontational or doesn’t want to step on toes, her friend may have never known she liked you. Or if she did, your friend probably said it was ok to pursue you because she wasn’t going to make a move herself and you weren’t either, never confirmed having feelings for one another, just friends, so why not give her friend the green light?

Yeah but she broke up with her boyfriend right before which is why my girlfriend asked her if it was okay if it was okay she pursued me.

So once you got the clue that she was interested, she was dating someone else. Then around the time she broke up with her boyfriend was when she told her friend she could pursue you, correct? If that timeline is right then it sounds like you two were just never able to give it a shot. Not trying to stir the pot whatsoever, of course.
