That's a good question. But I think I leave people I don't talk to anymore with something that is good enough to be positive and final, but leaving a small window open for them if they're willing to make the effort to chat again.

My best friend died about a year ago. We were friends since second grade. He moved away in 2020 and before he left I wanted to tell him how much i appreciated all the times he had my back. Covid screwed it all up and the next thing knew he was gone.
