I accidentally got into a situationship (first one ever)?

Idek how it happened. I met this guy and he pursued me heavily at first. Dates and fun activities, frequent invites. Few weeks in we hooked up. He asked me out week 4 of us meeting. He wasn’t really my type and I was still feeling out the relationship so I initially asked for more time, then as few more weeks passed I started to cave a bit because he seemed into me and it was a mix of feeling bad and slightly intrigued so I was like hey why the hell not. Never know what could come out of it. So one evening, maybe 2-3 weeks after he asked me out I say to him ‘hey, by the way if you were to ask me out I wouldn’t say no.’ I was thinking this is what he wanted as he has been steady trying to see me daily, cuddling, asking me to spend the night, getting date location tips from his coworkers. But instead of asking me out he says the strangest thing ‘oh wow that’s a lot of power’. I was like wtf, I said nothing then but I figured he would come around, maybe he just needed time. Pretty much from that point onwards he flips on me and starts treating me poorly, he is demanding and commanding, less accommodating and less generous. It has been 2-3 weeks since then and he hasn’t reverted back to his nice mode and hasn’t asked me out.

I’m genuinely baffled. Of course unbeknownst to him I restarted dating others because I don’t waste time but it will still take me a while to find someone who I like enough to fully replace him. And he is quite cocky about believing that I won’t leave. I have a trip coming up where I’ll be gone for a month and he has made no attempts to lock me down for that which I would usually expect from a guy if he is interested.

I need to know exactly what happened and what went through his head?
