What's a good alternative to dating apps?

I wish I knew but pretty much my only Idea's these days are.

1. Dating apps.

2. Know somebody who knows people who are single to meet them though.

3. If you're very, very lucky you might find a local club of some kind online to join and meet people there.

approaching someone in public is seen as weird and threatening now, its no longer normal to talk to people you don't know, and community events don't really exist anymore. People don't meet their and befriend their neighbors, block parties don't exist most places no longer have city sponsored social gatherings so the money can go elsewhere.

The ones that do still exist aren't the same anymore. People don't engage with others, they bring family and friends from home and spend time with them instead of meeting new people. Phones and social media have built a cultural wall around socialization so if you have friends and family hold them close because if you lose them finding people to fill that void will be near impossible in today's world.

There’s a social groups app called “Meetup”. You go in and select a bunch of interests. The app shows you groups that have similar interests. You join, RSVP for events and start meeting people. The common interests is a given with the basic format. It’s usually a group setting and it’s not about dating per se, so there’s no pressure. Just meet new people and have fun together. When you find someone you like especially, make the move to more limited encounters.

Being around a lot of guys and letting them talk to you. If you don't like a particular guy romantically, he still knows a lot of other guys. The same with girls. I know a million girls I could fix a guy up with if he asked me to, and if I see a lonely sadsack who's a nice guy, I might even suggest it to him.

I hate that this sentence makes me wish I was you friend. You nailed the "sad sack who's a nice guy" thing on the head there's a lot of guys in that demographic that just want to meet someone and date. I've gotten so lonely I had my fucking dad asking his friends if they had any single nieces or daughters that I might be able to get a blind date with, nothing.

I'm almost 30 and I'm pretty much out of hope at this point. Almost everyone who wants someone already has them and frankly a lot of the people left behind on both genders are trash. Being honest I don't have a whole lot going for me between being broke and mentally ill. At my age dating is almost impossible unless you can compete on the apps or know people who know single women.

So much of our world is online now that all the places it used to be acceptable to approach strangers no longer accept that. Coffee shops used to be called penny universities because so many people from all walks of life would meet there to socialize with each other. Now if you try to start a conversation in a public space like that people think you're weird and threatening and all I'm, trying to do is make new friends since I cut ties with my old group.

It took me 20 years, to realize it was an abusive dynamic and that my friendships weren't what I thought they were but I didn't fit in well at school so making friends was difficult. Trust me any guys you do this for as a favor will always be grateful for years after sometimes even when the relationship doesn't work out. You sound like a decent friend to have. I wish I was fortunate enough to have someone who would set me up with somebody.

It depends on who you are and what you're looking for I mean you can stay home and get on a role play app and experience things or you can just go out with your friends someplace and hopefully meet somebody but in order to do any of it you have to be on the move or on your computer

im trying to test out signing up with things where you intentionally interact and meet people. the idea is you play a numbers game basically, playing the odds. you go out meet people, the more people you meet the more chances you run into a person you like and really gel with. thats when you ask them out and go from there. So i been signing up with political groups, i go to meetups, i applied for a seasonal job which hasn't gone anywhere but if i got hired at one that would be a way to meet people too.

anyways, It hasn't happened yet but i feel this is a good way to do it thats not just going onto apps. it also forces you to be more social and practice those skills as well which i feel is important to learn.

Honestly I wish I could help. I went to a singles meet up because I’ve just been striking out for majority of my life so I thought maybe I could find a cute girl here and something could work and when I got there I was disappointed to learn that barely any women show up to these kinds of events. There was probably like 50 men and like 4 women there. Very disappointing for me. I've just given up at this point. 27, no girl wants me at this point I just must be a god awful person to them. I rarely even get a chance to show any personality before I’m rejected. My roommate sometimes brings his girlfriend over and now I just leave the apartment and smoke some weed because it just makes me sad that 27 years and I’ve never got close to experiencing what they have. But it’s just life some people get in relationships and some never do, I guess I just ended up on the wrong side of it.
