I'd probably think it's rude of him and tell him to get back to me on that later. He could choose literally any time to tell me, but chose a time that is likely very inconvenient for me and even if I didn't bring a date I wouldn't like to have such a conversation at a party. I'm not even sure I'd be attracted to him after making such a bad decision tbh.
