Maybe a friend you see once a month.

"Someone at your dinner table every night." Yeah though it's not a necessity.

"Someone who has our back". Yeah, but that is not guaranteed simply because you're in a relationship.

"Someone who makes you feel safe and secure." Again, yeah but that is not a guarantee.

"Someone who you know will always be there for you, no matter what." Once again not a guarantee.

In short, while being single isn't Ideal, I know I can trust me. I have no reason to think she'd be different from any of the other women I've known.

Yes it would be optimal and great to have all those things. But sometimes it's impossible to have all of those things because reality is different for everyone. Some people do have all of those, the one that tend to take it for granted. I hope you find it all and more.

So I've not been single for a long time, I have a preference for relationships. But I did have a few years in my life where I was a single pringle. And I was very happy. In my opinion if you are single and unhappy, getting into a relationship isn't going to make you happy. Relationships add to your life they don't give you one.

Sure, it can get lonely, but sometimes it's better than the alternative.

It is very lonely. You get used to it, and you learn ways to deal with it overtime. I do want someone, but it has to be with someone compatible.
