When you treat someone like crap it makes them feel like crap. When people make me feel like crap I sure dont want to do better for them. However it makes me want to do better for myself... I realize doing better for myself is being strong enough to know when to distance myself from things that make me feel like shit and expect it to make me better.

What makes someone do better is accepting the words of someone that critiques them. If they don't accept the words, then no way you attempt it will ensure they do better.
