When someone is telling the truth, is their story always consistent? Conversely, when someone is telling a lie, is their story more inconsistent?

I think liars will change their story to fit their audience. A truth teller sticks to the facts regardless.
Thst doesn't mean liars always change the story. Some liars rehearse it so well they even believe what they say is truth.
The truth might have holes throughout (sometimes bc they don’t know/recall those bits accurately and sometimes for discretion).
Lies skip around and are patchy.
Eventually “the truth will out” ….

This depends on the liar in question sone liars believe their own lies and are really good at lying. But most people suck at it… Most people will insult your intelligence by the lies they will tell you
Yes, majority of the time it will work that way.
Liars remember too much detail. People who tell the truth when recalling events will forget parts of it or get some details wrong. Anyone telling the story perfectly time after time has probably practiced it.
yupp that is somewhat true, but be careful of people who already mastered lying
Yes, this is Interrogation 101. Catch the suspect in a lie.
