Do you think that women are innately more nurturing than men, or is that a learned trait. Is that I society expectation or not?

Probably both, for many many centuries nursing was your role, working / providing food was the man's role. Its only logical that the genetics adapted to that where instinctually you have a stronger nurturing instinct.

Its actually most evident when there is a situation that is a middle ground, not the traditional role. Lets say there is an unknown creature and you wonder if its hurt. Your nurturing instinct may kick in wanting to help it, but the man's defensive instinct kicks in and he holds you back mentioning the creature might be dangerous.

In scenarios like that I think the gender difference is most visible.

It's more what society expects from women. Of course, as some have already pointed out, a mother carries her child for 9 months and that creates a connection that goes beyond the merely physical aspect. It's a very strong emotional bond, something men will never fully understand.

Apart from that, women are usually in charge of taking care of elderly people or a sick child. It goes back to past centuries, where a man would provide for his family and a woman, if she was working at all, would give priority to her family, at the expense of her professional aspirations.

This is slowly changing, but there's still a long way to go. See what happens in medical care: female nurses far outnumber male nurses, male doctors far outnumber female doctors. We'll need centuries before these roles are evened out.

Many are, but some don't have a single maternal bone in their whole body. It's just a matter of knowing the woman's personality.

I believe that SOME women might be more nuturing but not all of them. Some men are very nuturing.

I think women love to see themselves and portray themselves as more nurturing. But the truth is most people, male or female can be nurturing. And they can also be selfish assholes. From what I've seen it's not innate, it's related to how an individual is raised and socialized, role models, accountability, discipline, consequences and yeah, maybe innate IQ.

I've seen men and women who are walking dumpster fires of selfish entitled behavior. And I've seen men and women who are people pleasing doormats for everyone else. But most people fall somewhere between those two extremes.
