This is difficult or impossible to measure, and I have no scientific references to back this up, but my answer is yes, women are generally speaking more empathetic. Here's my attempt at analyzing why:

Women tend to support individuals of other races, minorities, alternative sexualities/bisexuality, interracial relationships, humanitarian rights (and I think the infirm and disabled, though not positive about those two.)

They are the vast majority of caregivers, both of children and anyone needing help. They raise children, teach (particularly the young), provide healthcare, and do human resources, all to aid people, not for personal gain.

Studies have found that female managers and executives create a more hospitable work environment that is more inclusive, less hostile and competitive amongst employees. They tend not to push for conclusions quickly or vie for totalitarian control.

They are less forceful in broadcasting their opinions and beliefs, do not openly compete (when they do it's more indirect, or not at all), and do not enjoy debate for the sake or challenge of 'winning' an argument or difference of opinion. They back down to keep the peace, avoid conflict, and value harmony over self-expression. They also undervalue themselves, and their opinions, when met with an equally passionate aggressor who does not back down, thus often giving their opposer undue credit, or the impression that they have changed the woman's mind, or bested them in defeat, when in fact the woman walked away from the fight.

They have a much, much wider capacity to listen. Men are typically impatient when it comes to analyzing the details, and often minutia, of the social and relational world. Many men don't care, but of the ones who do, it's not that they don't want the problems solved, it's that they just don't have it in them to listen to all the details, take every side into account, or worry about the feelings, sensitivity, and effect on the individuals involved, analyze and dissect, and then apply nuanced, well-thought-out solutions with a deft hand. Whether this is on a global or local level, their patience, interest, and compassion often far exceeds men's.

Because they understand feelings, emotions, and the inner world to a greater degree than many men, and weren't raised, nor abide by the same cultural norms of pulling the bootstraps up and not showing vulnerabilities, they easily recognize these pains in others, and are far less likely to condemn or ridicule people for confiding these things to her. Many men prefer talking intimately (non-sexually) with females, for this reason.

I believe women are way more empathetic than guys. I also think that's probably not fair to guys because they are taught from an early age to suppress emotions which makes it harder for them.

Yes, this is due to women having lower testosterone and higher estrogen. It has nothing to do with society, training, culture, etc. Culture evolved due to actual huma nature, not the other way around.

Yeah we guys mostly do things for our family and us only. We are competitive. Women are more empathetic. But that is just biological. Men have been the protectors and women have been the care takers. Although in modern society it is slowly changing.

I've thought about this before. And I concluded that it realllly depends on the person, as far as I experienced.
Scientifically, women's brain that manages the emotional/linguistic side is more developed than men's in average.
However, my experience tells me that women love to make sides, and favor their side. And they can often be really empathetic to the people who truley believe as their side. On the other hand, they can be mean, cold and unempathetic to the rest, no matter how well notice others' feelings.
In the case of guys, in my experience, while guys aren't good at being empathetic, they try to be kind, and try to understand you, doing nice things when they like you.

No. It's hard to say exactly who is more empathic as we are constantly shifting and evolving as humans. A good balance is needed and so is harmony.
