The way i see it is, they have their own house, their own income, a means of shower, and they have their life together.
I've looked into it because of the shitty housing market. It does come with complications & inconveniences, but it is much cheaper to maintain, and all you need is a PO box for legal residency to not be considered by law homeless. Plus monthly camping plot rentals are much cheaper than a mortgage, land tax, and utilities.
The biggest inconveniences is it is minimal living, and you have a septic tank and water tank to maintain along with fuel and other vehicle stuff.
