How do you find girlfriends on social media? Why can't I do it?

I send requests to girls who catch my eye on both Instagram and TikTok, but most of them don't accept. Let's say one or two do accept, but then when I message them, I either don't get a reply, or even if I do, after a few messages they stop replying. I'm not just sending random "Hi, want to chat?" messages or fire emojis. For example, if a girl shares a book story, I'll message her about books, but as I said, before we even get to the flirting stage, they disappear without us really getting to know each other. By the way, the profile photo is my own photo, so it’s not like I’m using a fake account. I don’t get it—am I that unattractive?
