People think it's weird that my former babysitter is now my girlfriend, do you agree?

I guess my question is, why even mention that at all? You are already aware of how that background story will sound, and you still share it anyway. I’d sooner tell someone we met in a dating app than repeatedly putting her in that position to look like a child groomer. I’d like to assume that you didn’t have any sort of romantic dynamic while you were underage, given the fact that you’re both in your 30s. But we on the outside aren’t privy to the timeline so when you share how you met, it makes her look like some creepy groomer. You should be protecting her from being viewed as such, if she deserves that grace of course. Otherwise that context is harmful to her and a trophy of sorts for you.

Why not tell people something else? You met on a dating app, you met during speed dating, you could even say you ran into each other at the bar. It doesn’t matter if those are lies, it isn’t really other people’s business and you already know that the truth to how you met only harms your girlfriend and makes her look bad. You should be most concerned with protecting her than telling a white lie to others.

Yes and no. Lets say the age difference is 8 years. You are 30 and she is 38, just happen to like each other and it worked out. Would be a little larger of an age gap but its not like thats creepy or a different phase of life.

Now lets turn back time to when she is 13 and wanted some pocket money. You'd have been 5 and in need of someone as your parents weren't home. Now its suddenly unthinkable.

I basically had a similar thought when I met my ex that we must have met when we did because we couldn't have met sooner as she was 5 years younger than me. 26 and 21 is not a weird age difference but had I met her when I was 18 it would have been unthinkable.

The part that does make your situation weird is that you both already knew each other young, rather than my situation where we met when we were age appropriate. How'd you ens up getting together?

The term "young" isn't really that specific, I wasn't that much younger than her when she was babysitting. I reconnected with her because we both grew up in the same area and stayed there.

Yeah, I didn't think I had a chance, she had a boyfriend when she was babysitting me. I just had a crush that I thought would go nowhere.

Probably because usually babysitters are young… but if she’s not young then you shouldn’t need to tell them that she was your babysitter.
