Why do most couples end up marrying someone close to their own age?

I know people say age is nothing but just a number. But why do most end up marrying someone close to their own age?

You don't understand averages? Compatibility? Who is more likely to be a similar level of maturity, two 20 year old or a 50 year old and a 20 year old? If someone is compatible with someone with significantly less life experience then they are underdeveloped.

It is not just a number. Someone closer to your age will have more in common, and you'll be able to age together.

I’d say accessibility more than anything. Usually your friends are within your age range, they’re who you hang out with, and most likely in a setting where you’d be introduced to others around your age as well.

Their social circle is often people close to their own age. It doesn't work though because most relationships end due to incompatibility.

It is changing now with the internet and social media. People can find a more compatible partner morally, and that has more compatible long term life goals and common interests regardless of their age differences, where as in the past that would have been much more difficult to find.

Many people become friends with others through school/college or work. The majority of people tend to go to school around the same age. The majority of people in certain types of employment are around the same age too where they meet each other. For example, if someone is higher up the corporate ladder, it likely took them years to get there and the same would go for the others in similar positions that they socialize with.

It is changing more though due to social media and people from different age groups that have interests in common meet now. For example, two people could be interested in gaming and meet online in a discussion about a specific game that they both enjoy.

Or if they could meet online discussing an outdoor activity, or something else they may both be interested in.

It's much easier to handle relationships with someone close in age, as it increases the odds that we're looking at life in a relatable way?

Proximity, common interests. You're going to be around people your own age socially and whatnot so it just increases the liklihood that those are the people you're going to have the most shared experiences with. And that's how bonds are formed.
