Poem called waiting by peggy Mcnally what is the meaning?

The poem goes five days a week the lowest paid subsititute teacher in the district drives her fathers used mercury to hough and 79rh where she drives it into the harage of patrick henery junior highschool where she'll tech back to back classes without so much as a coffee break and all of this depressing her until she remembers her date last night and hopes it will lead to bigger things maybe love so she quickens her pace towards the main office to pick up her class names with the names of students shell never know as well as she has to come to know the specials on the cafeteria where she hopes the coffee will be perkingand someone will have brought donuts she comes to love so much love more than the idean of teaching 7th graders the meaing of a poem because after all she's a sub wholl finish her day head south to her fathers house and at dinner hell remind hee that it might lead to a full tome postion but she knows what teaching in that school is like

The meaning is that through her despair of endless substitute jobs she teaches because that is what she loves. Her father tries to keep her hopes alive while she focuses on the mundane coffee and donuts. There is a glimmer of hope in her date of a brighter future but she fears to dream and remains critical of her future

She wants to find love and a permanent position but she is supplementing food with passion in her life. She has grown to love donuts more than teaching which shows she has given up on herself. Perhaps her dream was to teach older or younger grades but she's losing that hope. When her father says maybe this is the one that will be permanent she doesn't want to think it will be because she's had disappointments. She's fully qualified but living with her dad and driving his car. She's losing her ambition
